York Minster.
A church was established here in 314 by the Romans. The Conqueror destroyed
that church, which was rebuilt and finished about 1150, but all that is now
to be seen is of later date. The church, as it now stands, was reconstructed in 1472.
It is a cathedral of the Old Foundation, and is dedicated to St. Peter.
York is the largest, and, all things considered, the most magnificent of English cathedrals.
It has, without doubt, the best cathedral front in England. Taber, M (1904) Cathedrals of England.
