Valle Crucis Abbey.
"Just
above Llangollen, on the road to Ruthin, commences Valle
Crucis; and here, on a tumulus, in the middle of the
glen, are the remains of one of the most ancient
columns, or crosses, in Great Britain. It was entire
until the Civil War of the seventeenth century, when it was thrown down and broken by ignorant fanatics."
Extract from Abbeys, castles, and ancient halls of England and Wales (Open Library).
Valle Crucis Abbey is a Cadw property with free entry
for Cadw members.
