Witley
Court was once one of the grandest houses in the land.
However, a fire in 1937 and the subsequent stripping of
the house by a subsequent owner left the house in ruins.
Parts of which were built in the middle of the 17th
century, and the gardens were landscaped in the latter
half of the 18th century, that included the relocation
of the village of Great Witley to its current location.
Major reconstruction of the house occurred under John Nash's direction in the early 1800s, with further reconstruction and
a transformation of the gardens by William Nesfield in the 1850s.
Witley Court is a English Heritage property with free entry for English Heritage members.
