Sissinghurst Castle
Gardens.
Sissinghurst Castle Gardens were created in the 1930s by Vita Sackville-West, poet, novelist and gardener and her husband Harold Nicolson, the writer and diplomat. Sackville-West was born at Knole but did not inherit as the property passed to her Uncle as the male heir.
The gardens surround the ruins of an Elizabethan house, set in the middle of woods, streams and farmland and with views across the Kentish countryside.
Sissinghurst Castle is a National Trust property with free entry for National Trust members.
