National Roman Legion Museum.
The Roman station of Isca Silurum was
founded about the seventieth year AD; and the
various monuments found here prove that for very many years it was the
seat of the Second Augustan Legion. Its modern name, Caer-leon, the city
of the legion, there can be little doubt, is derived from this fact. As the
capital of the Roman province of Britannia Secunda, it was no doubt a
place of considerable importance in its day.
