Stanley Spencer Museum.
Stanley
Spencer was an Official War Artist in both World Wars. He is noted for Travoys with Wounded Soldiers Arriving at a Dressing Station at Smol, Macedonia, in September 1916, and
Shipbuilding on the Clyde, 1940-6. Travoys and many paintings from the Shipbuilding series
may be seen at the Imperial War Museum. His experiences during the first world war are also chronicled on a
series of wall paintings in the Sandham Memorial Chapel, Burghclere.
The Stanley Spencer Gallery is located in Spencer's home town of Cookham and has a wonderful collection of more than 100 of his paintings and drawings.
