Building of Bath Museum.
"Modern Bath is really the work of Ralph Allen and John Wood. The latter
built Allen's town-house first, and then his grand mansion of Prior Park. These
works afforded striking examples of Wood's genius and practical ability. If Wood
had not been the chronicler of his own achievements in what Mr. Earle calls
" mountebank diction," it is possible his works might have found a clearer and a
better exponent, and future generations would have appreciated his service to
Bath more distinctly than they have done. The works of Wood, both father and
son, were the result of well-considered plans and arrangements, the ichnography
of which was calculated with close regard to unity of design and systematic
regularity." Extract from "Historic houses in Bath, and their associations" (Open Library)
Visit the museum and discover those who built Bath including the great architect John Wood.
