Mapledurham
was begun to be built in the late 1580s by Sir Michael Blount, Lieutenant of the Tower of London
and was completed by his son Sir Richard in 1612. His son Sir Charles succeeded him.
In 1643 the Roundheads besieged and sacked the house, a year before the death of Sir Charles at the siege at Oxford.
The working Mill at Mapledurham dates from the 15th century.
It was increased in size, by the addition of a second waterwheel, in the 1670s.
