Fyvie Castle
"Fyvie Castle, on the banks of the river
Ythan, in northern Aberdeenshire, is the finest
example extant of Scottish castellated architecture. The castle occupies a mound in the
midst of an extensive marshy valley, and be-
cause of the security of the position, the spot
has been fortified since very early times. The
castle forms two sides of a quadrangle, the
south face measuring one hundred and forty-
seven feet and the western front one hundred
and thirty-seven feet."
