Yarmouth Castle
"This
fort lies in the Isle of Wight, at the end of the
estuary of the little Yar river. The town was burnt by
the French in 1337, and again in 1354, and after the
latter event Henry VIII. erected at the extremity of the
harbour a small blockhouse, or round fort, upon the
site, as is alleged, of a church. It had a platform for
eight guns, and houses for a garrison."
