Raby Castle is one of the largest and most impressive medieval castles in England.
It was built by the Neville family in the middle of the 14th century.
The Neville's led the ill fated Rising of the North in 1569 and, in consequence, Raby castle
was confiscated by the Crown. Sir Henry Vane purchased Raby Castle in 1626,
and it has remained in the Vane family ever since.
