Leicester Cathedral.
"About the beginning of the 14th century this church was enlarged and beautified,
St. Martin's by the addition of a second and broader south aisle,
the east end of which formed the Lady Chapel, at whose altar officiated the priests
of the great Religious Guild of Corpus Christi. At the east end of the inner
and earlier south aisle was the Chapel of S. Dunstan; while across the chancel,
into which a large fresco painting of the saintly heroine looked down, was that of St. Catherine,
terminating the north aisle of the church. At the south-west end of the edifice was the
Chapel of S. George; and there was also a Rood Chapel, not far from the richly-carved Rood Screen
and Loft dividing the nave from the chancel, and adorned with the customary large crucifix
in its centre, and images of the Virgin and St. John on either side."
