"Drum Castle is situated a short distance
north of the river Dee, three or four miles
below Crathes. It consists of a massive and ancient keep, to which has been
added a seventeenth century mansion. The castle was probably built by William de Irvine, on whom the
estate of Drum was conferred by Robert I."
